The unincorporated community of Chantilly, VA, is located in Fairfax County, 25 miles west of Washington, D.C. As an established bedroom community for commuters, Chantilly covers nearly 12 square miles of land, home to roughly 23,000 residents.
Several plantations once occupied the area, and the name Chantilly comes from a local 19th-century mansion and farm. The Battle of Chantilly and the Second Battle of Bull Run took place in Chantilly during the Civil War. Today, a five-acre park commemorates the hill on which the Battle of Chantilly was fought. Ticonderoga Farms and the headquarters for the National Reconnaissance Office are located in Chantilly, along with several parks and recreation areas for outdoor enjoyment.
